Barbershopper of the Year 2018 and Awards
Our annual retreat held at Cranage Hall in Cheshire this past weekend is the pinnacle of rehearsal for the chorus. A fabulous country setting with superb surroundings to enable us to concentrate on developing our repertoire, competition packages and overall performance art. This is when we have opportunity to intensely focus on our performance for the upcoming convention in Bournemouth. As we come to the end of another fantastic champion year.
Being the British Association of Barbershop Singers BABS Champions is a huge accolade for us, it gives us the opportunity to come to our convention and offer up some of what we have been working on for the past 8 months.
This year is no different, we are bringing a massive package to Bournemouth and it has been an extremely intense few months of learning. But we have done it and now it is all about polishing our art under some fantastic coaching from Neil and guest coach from Joe Cerruti.
One of the fab things about convention is sitting down and having dinner with the boys. We do not get a lot of time or opportunity to socialise, so it is good to tear bread and drink the odd beverage. Once that is out of the way we have our annual awards ceremony. Three awards were made at the weekend. Our Barbershoper of the Year, The Presidents Award and The Cordial Exchange cup for most improved quartet.
Cordial Exchange Cup – Most Improved Quartet
The most improved quartet and fantastic winner of the Cordial Exchange Cup went to Poachers Relish. Who made the top 16 again to be able to compete in the quartet competition in Bournemouth (BABS19). Ash, Chris, Paul and Brett have done and will do us proud; we will be there to support them!
The Presidents Cup was Awarded to Jonathan Healey – who’s character and spark lights up every rehearsal. We think big things will come from Jon.
Barbershopper of The Year 2018
Finally, our Barbershopper of the Year for 2018 is Steve Plummer. Steve works tirelessly to capture our rehearsals and publish them to our secure online space so the chorus never misses a beat or opportunity to catch up with a rehearsal. Thanks to Steve we have thousands of hours of footage covering every aspect of chorus life. Beyond that and being an active member of the baritone section, ready to rehearse at the drop of the hat. Steve is always there to lend a hand. A valued member of the team
